What are the modalities?
Cardinal, fixed, mutable: these are another way to understand the 12 zodiac signs. Modality refers to the kind of impact or energy a sign has. Learn more about the modes below.
Mutable
The mutable signs—Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, and Pisces—tend to be flexible and interested in processes of change. They are the most adaptable signs in the zodiac.
Cardinal
The cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn—tend to be leaders, interested in initiating and creating. They are the catalysts, connectors, and head honchos of the zodiac.
Fixed
The fixed signs—Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Leo—tend to be highly stable, if not inflexible, and interested in established foundations. They are the anchors of the zodiac.
